Hyperloop

Have you heard of Hyperloop? Elon Musk’s concept for the future of mass transportation would see electrically-propelled pods travel autonomously through a near-vacuum tube at speeds comparable to aircraft. That means a three-hour train journey could be reduced to just 30 minutes.

And we’re involved.

21 leading universities around the world have been selected to compete in the 2019 Hyperloop Pod Competition whereby each team will develop their own high-speed pod. Each pod will be judged on maximum speed with the successful declaration (without crashing) on 21st July 2019.

A team from one of these universities has approached us at WDB to balance a high-speed rotor assembly with extremely high tolerances. We are now working to design suitable tooling to achieve these requirements which will assist the team in their efforts for the competition We look forward to the outcome in July!

Energy Recovery Systems (ERS)

Between 2009 and 2011, Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS), were used by Formula 1 teams to recover kinetic energy for future use. More specifically the energy from when a car brakes. KERS was the first step towards the electrification of power units in F1. Making them one of the most efficient internal combustion engines ever made.
